A note from your teacher

The American Humanity Mediation Service
If you're reading this, you probably already know what it feels like to stand in the middle of a conflict — maybe in a school hallway, a community meeting, or a tense conversation between neighbors — and wish you had more than good intentions to offer. You care deeply about your community. You show up. But caring isn't always enough when emotions are running high, trust has broken down, and people are talking past each other instead of to each other.
That's exactly why I built this training.
Resolving Differences was designed for practitioners like you — people who are already in the room, already trusted by their communities, and ready to add real, structured mediation skills to everything they already bring. This isn't an academic program that keeps practice at arm's length. Every piece of this curriculum — from the trauma-informed frameworks to the full mediation simulations — was built around what actually happens when real people sit across from each other in conflict.
Here's what I want you to know: you don't need to be a lawyer, a therapist, or a conflict resolution expert to do this work effectively. What you need is a clear process, a set of practiced skills, and an honest understanding of how trauma, culture, and power shape the way people experience and express conflict. That's what this training gives you — step by step, in language that respects your intelligence and your lived experience.
I also want to be honest about something. Learning to mediate means learning to look at yourself — your biases, your blind spots, your own relationship to conflict and culture. That's not always comfortable. But it's what separates mediators who are technically competent from mediators who are genuinely transformative. The self-assessment work, the personal growth planning, the ethics reflection — those aren't add-ons. They're the foundation.
By the time you complete this training, you'll have facilitated simulated mediations, designed a conflict resolution plan for a real community context, and earned a certification that reflects 30 hours of serious, purposeful practice. More than that, you'll have a way of showing up in conflict that is grounded, equitable, and healing-centered — not just for the people you serve, but for yourself.
I'm glad you're here. This work matters, and so do you. Let's get started.
